Be your own Sun
Dear M
Let me tell you a story... In a not so distant past, children were taught to love others, adjust for others in order to be 'good'. While, following this invisible yet sacred value, they somehow lost the sense of 'self', it was almost a sacrilege thought to be doing what you want as it treaded on the line of being selfish and self-centred. This entire generation, almost most of them, lost themselves in the process.
This was your grandparents' generation and girls, by the time they grew into adults, they mastered this value.
Then came your mom, she too was sort of brought up with this thought process, except that she was also told to stand for herself when needed while trying not to hurt other people's feelings. Now is that always really possible? In this great conundrum of balancing my thoughts and views while being mindful of others' feelings, has exhausted me.
Hence, this letter to you from someone who tries to balance on a thin rope without any stick to hold onto.
Be your first priority!
Yes, you heard it right... It may sound selfish, self-centred, blah blah! But the truth is that your most important relationship in this world is with you, yourself. Why such 'damning' advice? Few may frown upon me when I say this, but my experience makes me share this with you.
The answer is simple, if you can have a loving, warm, forgiving/compassionate and passionate relationship with yourself, only then you will be able to give selflessly and forgive instantly.
Prioritising yourself will take you to an introspective journey from time to time and enable you to learn about your strengths, passion, shortcoming and everything in between.
It will help you realise your full potential. You will also protect yourself from the societal and peer pressures, stand up fearlessly for your thoughts, and be more aware of your instincts and intuition. In this life, you will be the most content and satisfied person.
Everyone aspires to attain this and only a handful can only because, till now, no one explicitly asks us to do this. How can one expect a happy, prosperous and peaceful world, if we are not all of these in our minds and hearts?
Love yourself the most---always in each and every moment. It will help you develop relationships without any strings, wants or expectations and in turn, you will only get positive feelings and love.
Be the sun in your solar system, and your brightness will illuminate your relationship with others--us, family, friends, colleagues and your future partner.
I promise to encourage you to find unlimited love in yourself so that if anyone asks you, "who do you love the most?" You instantly say, "Me."
Love Mamma
